Markus Rüegsegger, who has been managing our small caps fund since its launch in 2008, first looks at the balance sheet when analyzing a company; he rarely invests without seeing a healthy balance sheet. The fund holds shares of smaller companies in Switzerland.

The small cap fund is suitable for a regional diversification of the equity portion of a portfolio. The fund is offered as a private (R) and institutional (I) class in CHF.

The focus on healthy balance sheets and stable business models means that the fund fluctuates noticeably lower over time than the overall market. Those who lose less in the crisis have to catch up less in the upswing.

Diversification

The fund invests exclusively in Switzerland. In addition to a regional diversification, it offers a niche view into small companies of various industries.

Local Swiss Businesses

Around a quarter of the fund is invested in shares that are not listed on a stock exchange. These are Swiss SMEs, which very often have high hidden reserves in their balance sheets and are embedded in the stable Swiss domestic economy.
